Jacks Got Your Back
Well, it's official everyone. We now have a real live lawyer in our family, so pick up the phone and start calling- 1-800-333-JACK. No matter what problem it is, Jacks got your back- we will get you your money, as long as you give us YOURS! ha ha. Let the Lawyer jokes begin! Toby was officially sworn in November 1st in Kent Washington. We both felt proud and a sigh of relief as we looked back on the rigor of these past three+ years. From studying for the LSAT to getting accepted into Penn State to studying endless hours and nights and weekends and holidays to graduating from law school to applying for an LLM to getting accepted into an LLM to studying endless hours and nights and weekends and Holidays for the BAR to passing the BAR and FINALLY, it is official. Yet after all this, we are STILL in school and STILL poor paupers without a job! Funny how this works. Maybe this is why lawyers charge so much- they are trying to get back all the lost money and time they sacrificed over many years to become a lawyer. Don't worry, we are not planning on taking your money, nor are we expecting to get rich. We just want do get out of school and have a job just like everyone else. Yes Laura and Greg, you are in for a real ride, but look, we are living proof that the ride DOES END at some point! Not that the ride of life ever ends though of course. Anyways, let me tell you about the ceremony. It was very different than I expected. I thought it would be this long drawn out stately ceremony in a very stately courtroom with very stately judges and law makers. I thought each attorney-to-be would have to put their hand on the bible with other hand in the air and swear an oath in front of a very large and silent crowd. Well, we showed up at the City Building, took the elevator up a few floors and stepped out right into the place of swearing in. It was held in a sort of auditorium, very beautiful with large windows out of which you could see MT Rainer and the sun setting. Nothing looked like a courtroom except for the stately American Flag behind the podium and the stately, but human, judges in their black robes sitting behind the podium. Shortly after we sat down, the ceremony began with the President(?) of the WA Bar Association conducting. He made a few remarks and then one of the stately judges spoke. After his short remarks, the swearing in began. All attorneys-to-be stood in a row and faced the audience. No Bible or BOM in sight. They all rasied their hands and repeated an oath given by the judge, and then we clapped and it was all over! Very official and very unofficial at the same time, but I guess Toby will get a letter in a few days so we can prove it actually happened. We got pictures, but the aren't digital...so we'll have to share them with you all when we see you. For now, just picture the great TNJ as a real attorney, fighting for your rights and TAXES, of course. :)Leah
